Maud Lewis (1903 – 1970) was a Canadian folk artist from Nova Scotia. Her paintings were inspired by childhood memories of the landscape and people and focused on subjects in nature and ordinary life.
Bright, pure colors are a hallmark of her paintings.
Lewis lived most of her life in poverty but remains one of Canada's best-known folk artists. Her biopic - Maudie - starred Oscar-nominated actors Ethan Hawke and Sally Hawkins.

Maud Lewis (1903-1970) had no formal training in the visual arts. Like many folk artists, she painted for the joy of adding colour, light and fun to a poverty stricken rural existence. From her small world came a proliferation of paintings depicting a charming rural life full of flowers, cats, sleigh rides, deer, and teams of curly-lashed oxen.About the Art Prints
