Sher-Gil's early paintings display a significant influence of the Western modes of painting, more specifically, the post-impressionism style. She practiced a lot in the Bohemian circles of Paris in the early 1930s. The drawing is a preparatory sketch done at some point over those ten or more days in Cape Comorin for one of the figures

She's sometimes known as India's Frida KahloToday she is considered an important woman painter of 20th century India, whose legacy stands on par with that of the Masters of Bengal Renaissance. She is also the 'most expensive' woman painter of India.
