This triptych by Kobayashi Kiyochika, an important innovator in Meiji era prints, portrays the arrival of the Imperial prince, who is greeted by the empress whose ladies-in-waiting stand behind her. One holds a gift covered by a red cloth. Kiyochika's prints were influenced by his study of European artistic techniques which contributed toward his original approach to print design.
