About Brita In The Drawing Room Carl Larsson Water Colour Painting
Dating from 1910, this portrait of his 17-year-old daughter, Brita, is tyical of Swedish artist Carl Larsson (1853-1919)'s affectionate chronicling of domestic life in Sweden in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Larsson moved to Paris in 1877, where he became a part of the Scandinavian artists' colony outside the city. It was here that he met his wife-to-be, artist and interior designer Karin Bergoo. Bergoo's father gave the couple a small house, Little Hyttnas, in Sundborn, Sweden, which they decorated themselves according to their artistic tastes. It also became the backdrop for the series of delightful portraits and scenes from family life for which Larsson is probably best known. A classic of the Swedish arts & crafts movement, Little Hyttnas has been preserved for posterity and is a popular tourist destination.
