About Buddha under the bodhi tree
The Bodhi Tree was a large and very old sacred fig tree or peepal tree located in Bodh Gaya, under which Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual teacher who later became known as the Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment (Bodhi). Seeking a way to understand the meaning of life and find a way to end all the pain and sorrow in the world, Siddhartha set out for Bodhgaya. Near a grove, he sat down under a huge Bodhi tree to meditate until the answers were found. His mind became calm and clear and he understood the cycle of birth, death and the wheel of life. He understood his true nature and that of all living beings. This was the end of his spiritual journey, and at that moment he became "the Buddha", meaning the ‘Enlightened One’.
