About Indian Woman Spinning (Indigena Tejiendo) Diego Rivera Painting
Indian Woman Weaving was a transitional painting that served as a bridge between his usual heroic portrayals of revolutionaries, workers, and peasants and later to more sentimental images of indigenous people. This painting depicts a native woman sitting on a yellow floor in a white dress and weaving with a white cloth. The room behind her is empty except for a stack of wooden materials in the back. She looks at her weaving with focus as she is completely immersed in the weaving. Rivera frames her with great dignity through doing an everyday activity to try to capture the lives of everyday Mexican people.
