"L'Engadine" is a well-known landscape by the German dadaist and surrealist Max Ernst. The Engadin is a region of the Swiss Alps located in the canton of Grisons, in the south-east of Switzerland. Ernst was one of the first artists to apply Sigmund Freud's dream theories investigate his deep psyche in order to explore the source of his own creativity. His experiments and technical innovations led to finished images, accidental patterns, and definite textures which he would then incorporate into his drawings and paintings.
