About Maharaja Ajit Singh Of Jodhpur Indian Miniature Art Royalty Painting
The current portrait of a ruler seated on a terrace, depicts Maharaja Ajit Singh of Jodphur (1679 -1724).The ruler is seated on a pale pink rug with a floral green border; he is supported by a large saffron coloured bolster that vividly offsets the orange and gold robe in which he is attired. He is richly adorned with multiple strings of pearls and jewelled necklaces, highlighted in gold. The gold is reflected in the weapons that surround him, that include a shield, a bow, three arrows and a hunting rifle. Beneath the rifle lies a belt with pouches and a gunpowder horn attached to it. The ruler's head is surrounded by a glowing golden halo. The entire scene is intentionally designed to highlight the wealth and power of the ruler that is depicted. Although the painting depicts the ruler of Jodhpur, the painting is in a style more closely associated with the court ateliers of Bundi and Kota.
