About Narasimha Kills Hiranyakashipu On The Threshold Of His Palace C. 1775 C. 1790 Vintage Indian Miniature Art Painting
Hiranyakashipu lies dead on the threshold of his palace, his heart and intestines having been ripped out by Narasimha (the half-man half-lion incarnation of Vishnu). The demon king's death wish is fulfilled having been killed as the sun was setting (neither day nor night) with Narasimha's claws (neither weapon nor animal) on his lap (neither on earth nor in the sky) on the palace threshold (neither indoors nor outdoors), . To the immediate left and right of Narasimha stand Prahlada and his mother. Also present to worship Vishnu are Indra, Brahma and a host of other gods and demi-gods.
