About New Beauty Ito Shinsui Japanese Woodblock Ukiyoe Art Painting Print
Ito Shinsui is one of the great names of the Shin Hanga art movement. His sensual, expressive depiction of bijin - beautiful young women - made him immortal. Ito Shinsui was born in 1898 in Fukagawa, Tokyo, with the original name of Hajime. He had to start an apprenticeship in a Tokyo printing company at a very early age. Later he became a student of Kiyokata Kaburagi. When he was only 17 years old, he was admitted to exhibit at the Bunten exhibition.
