Frederic Edwin Church was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on May 4, 1826, the only son of a wealthy businessman. Church the first pupil accepted by America's leading landscape painter- Thomas Cole. About Tamaca Palms
The artist, recorded in meticulous pencil and oil sketches, the details of nature and life along the Magdalena River in Colombia. Upon returning to his New York studio, he created Tamaca Palms using these studies, including those of the tamaca species of palm and the boat in the foreground, known as a champan or bongo.
