Lenore "Lee" Krasner was an American abstract expressionist painter, with a strong speciality in collage. She was married to Jackson Pollock. Although there was much cross-pollination between their two styles, the relationship somewhat overshadowed her contribution for some time. View Artist Collection

About The Eye Is The First Circle
Lee Krasner’s The Eye is the First Circle, a masterpiece of the abstract expressionist era, could break the auction record for the artist. Krasner (1908-1984) created The Eye is the First Circle in 1960 during a period of grief following the deaths of her husband Jackson Pollock in 1956 and her mother in 1959. She moved her practice to Pollock’s former studio in the barn at their home in East Hampton, New York, to experiment on large canvases, which are now known as her Umber paintings.
