Miles Dewey Davis III (1926 – 1991) was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. He is among the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th century music. This photograph (one from a set of 3) was taken for an album cover in 1986 and embodies the magical interchange that took place between the photographer and the musician.
