About The Model (Le Modèle) Marc Chagall Modernism Painting
Le Modèle is a beautiful and tender evocation of some of Marc Chagall’s most iconic motifs, including a loving couple, his adopted homeland of France, his childhood village of Vitebsk and a life-affirming bouquet of flowers bursting with color. Chagall provides a glimpse into his mind, capturing a romantic scene in a dream-like setting. In the center of the composition a young Bella Rosenfeld, Chagall’s first wife, holds court, denoted by her lace collar and cuffs, almond shaped eyes, and peaceful expression (see fig. 1). Behind her stands the artist, palette and brushes gripped in one hand, while the other gestures towards a canvas depicting a bridal couple under a chuppah. A table dominated by an enormous bouquet of flowers runs the length of the left side of the composition, while at the bottom the artist’s familiar rooster and depiction of his hometown of Vitebsk further add to the dream-like imagery.About the Large Art Prints
