"The Pottery Workshop, Tangiers " by Jean Discart is a famous painting depicting a pottery session going on. Jean Baptiste Discar was a French painter of Orientalism. Discart began his painting studies in 1873 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Anselm Feuerbach . His fellow students included Carl von Merode and Ludwig Deutsch. After Feuerbach's resignation, Leopold Carl Müller became his successor. Discart, Merode and German wanted to continue their painting studies with him, but were rejected. Discart went around 1884 together with Ludwig German to Paris , where both devoted themselves to the painting of Orientalism. Discart showed his works at the Paris salons. He spent several years in Tangier, the sketches that were produced there provided inspiration for later works, which were created after his return to Paris.
