About The Promenade
This is one of pictures that Chagall painted while on a home visit to Belarus from Paris. When he came in 1914 war broke out and couldn't return. In 1917, he was living back in Vitebsk. It was also the year he became engaged to Bella - flying in the air celebrates the joy and ectasy of their love. Promenade is one of three pictures showing this: The Birthday - Bella is lifted into the air; in Over the Town, they have left earth altogether in The Promenade she is clearly flying like a kite; he stands on the ground, holding her hand as she is pulled up into the air and tugged powerfully away from him by the wind. Her torso acts as the kite-sail, her legs playing freely in the air like a kite-tail dancing in the breeze.About the Framed Prints
