"The Rajah Starting on a Hunt" by Edwin Lord Weeks is a famous painting depicting preparations for a hunting expedition at a palace in Ajmer, Rajasthan, this unfinished canvas probably dates from Weeks’s 1892 trip to India and may have been painted from photographs or sketches upon his return to Paris. The façade of this palace is completely covered by tiers of projecting windows, of varying design, in which white alternates with brownstone, all remarkable for breadth and delicacy of treatment, and the whole pile is wonderfully light and airy in effect.
