Sayed Haider Raza, “S H Raza” is one of the most respected Modernists of India and is celebrated for his range of styles and the uniqueness of his vision. His early forms reflect a mastery of abstraction and after years of travel, exploration, and experimentation, he returned to Indian visual idioms for inspiration in the late 1970s, culling from tantric imagery. SH Raza looked to forms as the bindu (seminal source of energy), beej (seed), and garbagraha (sanctum sanctorum or hallowed space) for inspiration. S H Raza's magnum opus lies in his Bindu series (from 1980), and its extensions Germination (Ankuran) and Prakriti (Nature), represent the peak of Indian Modernist geometric abstraction. The central Bindu (dot) is the cosmic seed, symbolizing the origin of creation, energy, and a focal point for deep meditation. The Germination paintings visually explore the next phase: the sprouting of this seed. Alongwith Panchatatva elements, it represents the union of elements (Earth, Water, Fire) necessary for life's rebirth and growth. The Tribhuj (triangle) symbolizes Purusha (consciousness) and Prakriti (matter), with the inverted triangle often signifying fertility or the womb. These powerful abstract artworks feature rich color fields and structured geometric shapes, representing core concepts of Indian philosophy and Tantric cosmology as well as Western abstraction with indigenous spiritual motifs.About the Posters
