Maqbool Fida Husain (1915 - 2011) was a modern Indian painter of international acclaim, and a founding member of The Progressive Artists Group of Bombay (PAG). M F Husain was associated with Indian modernism in the 1940s.
Husain began his career by painting billboards for feature films. Hussain's —sometimes treated in series—include topics as diverse as Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Ramayana, Mahabharata, British Raj, Bollywood, horses and motifs of Indian urban and rural life.
M. F. Husain’s name has become almost synonymous with modern Indian art, for no single artist has popularised Indian art. M F Husain was a special invitee along with Pablo Picasso at the Sao Paulo Biennial (Brazil) in 1971.

"Untitled (Dancers Under the Full Moon)" by the Indian modern master M F Husain is a profound example of the unique amalgam of post-Independence/post-Impressionist painting: powerfully evocative of classical Indian plastic traditions and distinctly modern at the same time. Husain’s modernism then contends even in its earlier period with an understanding of Indian aesthetics at a fundamental level. In the present work, the triple axial posture of the five figures draws upon the tribhanga postures of classical sculpture, and the tight overlapping forms of the central figures are reminiscent of the frieze panels of North Indian temples. Characteristic of Husain’s unique visual vocabulary is his style of combining the palette of the Indian miniature with the voluptuous curves and fluid postures of early and medieval Indian sculpture.About the Framed Prints
