About Untitled (Standing Figure)
"Untitled (Standing Figure)" by the famous Indian Modernist Tyeb Mehta, is one of the most expensive Indian paintings which was sold at Rs 11,51,25,000 by Saffronart in 2015. Mehta's stark formal treatment of dismembered figures with arms flailing, the fractured picture plane with juxtaposed flat areas of colour, and the emphasised diagonals heighten the impact and awareness of violence and suffering. Mr. Mehta’s style of painting sets him apart from India’s revered group of Modernist painters. His paintings stand out for his use of colors, in clear-cut segments, which create deconstructed, and sometimes disturbing, figurative representations of bulls and gods.
