Ohara Koson is a Japanese artist born in 1877 and died in 1945 , also known as Ohara Shoson and Ohara Hoson . He was a painter of Kacho-e (illustrations of birds and flowers) and specialist of nature scenes. The prints of Koson are close to watercolors and made with great care, with great attention to detail, especially on plumage. These prints of heron or eagles are particularly successful. Ohara Koson used different seals and signatures during his career and it is very difficult to date his works precisely. The prints made after the great Kanto earthquake in 1923 tend to have more vivid colors than his early works. Some have been printed with different color variations.
