Woman at a Dressing Table is a Impressionist Painting by Gustave Caillebotte.Gustave Caillebotte was born in Paris in 1848 to wealthy parents. He was a qualified lawyer and an engineer who served in the Franco Prussian War. It was only when the war ended that Caillebotte began his artistic career.Caillebotte was a wealthy individual who was a generous patron to his fellow impressionist artists. He was close friends with many of the famous French Impressionist artists and he purchased their work when they were suffering financial hardship and he also funded many of the Impressionist Exhibitions. Caillebotte was acquainted with most of the French impressionist painters and also the Italian Impressionist artist Guiseppe de Nittis, whom he met through Edgar Degas.Gustave Caillebotte oil paintings of Woman at a Dressing Table demonstrate an almost photo-realistic effect similar to the later American Realist Movement.Paris Street, Rainy Day 1877 is perhaps the most famous of Caillebotte's paintings and is held by the Art Institute of Chicago.
