Camille Pissarro was a Danish-French Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter born on the island of St Thomas. His importance resides in his contributions to both Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Pissarro studied from great forerunners, including Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. He later studied and worked alongside Georges Seurat and Paul Signac when he took on the Neo-Impressionist style at the age of 54. View Artist Collection

About Conversation
The late 1870s to the 1880s were a major turning point in the careers of Pissarro and the other Impressionists. This change was symbolized by Monet, Renoir and Sisley's absence from the 6th Impressionists Exhibition held in 1881, and from this time onwards the Impressionists each struck out on their own path. Pissarro also made some new attempts to find a way out of this impasse amidst these circumstances in the late 1870s.
